Thank you
, , , , , and many others for tuning into my live video with !Here are links to several things Lisa and I discuss in the LIVE video:
First, we go back almost two thousand years to St Augustine’s sex addiction, which led him into the priesthood. He read the story of Adam and Eve and invented the doctrine of Original Sin to blame women for every lustful thought and deed men do (among other things.) His motto was basically this:
Men cannot control ourselves so women must control themselves.
Next, I referenced my 15 April 2024 newsletter Sex and the Christian Nationalist. It is paywalled, but I pulled a quote to give everyone the flavor.
Christian Nationalists believe Old Testament God orders them to police sexual immorality and fornication in the United States.
They cannot accept legal rulings like Obergefell, which sanctions same-sex marriage, because they believe such decisions violate the commandments of their Old Testament God. Nor can they ignore other activities their God deems “sexual crimes”: Two teenagers making out; an unmarried couple having sex; a woman masturbating to porn in her own bedroom; and similar.
Our next stop is Dusty Deevers’ Oklahoma bill (introduced multiple times) to ban pornography. It includes a detailed list of everything Christian Nationalists might regulate as obscene. For free subscribers, I pulled the list from the bill.
As used in this title, “unlawful pornography” means any visual depiction or individual image stored or contained in any format on any medium including, but not limited to, film, motion picture, videotape, photograph, negative, undeveloped film, slide, photographic product, reproduction of a photographic product, play, or performance in which a person is engaged in any of the following acts with a person:
a. sexual intercourse which is normal or perverted,
b. anal sodomy,
c. sexual activity with an animal,
d. sadomasochistic abuse,
e. flagellation or torture,
f. physical restraint such as binding or fettering in the context of sexual conduct,
g. fellatio or cunnilingus,
h. excretion in the context of sexual conduct,
i. lewd exhibition of the uncovered genitals in the context of masturbation or other sexual conduct, and
j. lewd exhibition of the uncovered genitals, buttocks, or, if such person is female, the breast, for the purpose of sexual stimulation of the viewer.
Oklahoma Senate Bill 1976, pages 4 - 5
GO HERE to read the full text of Christian Nationalist Republican Senator Mike Lee’s “Interstate Obscenity Definition Act.” It’s only three pages. Also note the way he slipped in a means for Red Hats to keep doxxing their perceived enemies online to make threatening, harassing, and obscene phone calls.
To understand this bill, we need to go back to a case that was argued before the Supreme Court in January 2025: Free Speech Coalition Inc v Paxton.
This Texas case resulted from the state’s attempt to ban PornHub by instituting an age verification requirement. I’ve highlighted a relevant section from this paywalled newsletter below:
The court of appeals applied a less rigorous standard of review, known as rational-basis review, than Ezra had used. That test looks at whether the law advances a legitimate state interest and, if so, whether there is a rational connection between that interest and the law. By contrast, the more rigorous standard of review, known as strict scrutiny, requires the government to show that the law serves a compelling government interest and is narrowly drawn to advance that interest.
In other words, communities that want to ban books because they violate community values or ban activities because they offend community standards would have an easier time using rational-basis review. It allows Christian Nationalists to deem anything obscene as a legitimate state interest and make a rational connection (community values) between that interest and the law.
It is important for every American to understand that these proposed laws and lawsuits are not about protecting children. They are about applying the Christian Nationalist definition of obscenity to every aspect of American life.
If they can demolish almost 100 years of settled legal precedent surrounding obscenity and the First Amendment, they can use their community values and contemporary community standards arguments to ban ANYTHING that offends a Christian Nationalist.
If you don’t want men like Mike Johnson, Mike Lee, and Clarence Thomas in your bedrooms policing every private sexual thing you do, it is vital to understand what Christian Nationalists mean when they say the word PORNOGRAPHY. It is imperative that we show up and oppose these bills, especially at the local level where groups like Moms for Liberty have deployed these tactics with so much success.
