"Christian Nationalists believe hormonal birth control pills cause abortions. Our right to contraception IS NOT A GIVEN. Republicans have repeatedly refused to codify that right nationwide."
Some of these folks believe that sexual intercourse should only be for the purpose of procreation. Therefore, since hormonal birth control pills prevent pregnancy, they should be illegal.
If you're concerned about violence, consider taking a wilderness first aid course.
These courses are advanced enough that you learn to do very good patient assessments, talk coherently to ERs and paramedics, stop any external bleeding, splint any fracture and otherwise assess for serious injury including concussion and internal bleeding. Moreover, you're taught to work with materials at hand. You don't need a bunch of fancy gear.
There are many sources of this training near you. The cost is around $200 for a two-day course. It's like drinking from a fire hose. I've recertified six times and have learned something new each time. For example, if you come upon a nasty car accident, you will know what to do until the first responders arrive.
Thank you so much for sharing this link, James. An excellent, excellent recommendation.
And as to the front-end of your comment, yes. Exactly. This is the stated belief of every Christian Nationalist sect (Protestant and Catholic.) Sex is always for procreation. It is never for pleasure. It should never occur outside of marriage, and if it does, the woman (or girl) tempted the man into it with her covert or overt sluttery and therefore deserves the punishment of a child she did not want.
I’m fearful. In fact, I’m terrified. My sanity depends on access to mental health medication. And I get my insurance through Medicare. The latest news is that DOGE now has access to medical records that determine social security disability benefits. They’re looking for fraud. I can pretty much guarantee that psychiatric disability benefits will be the first to go. I’m terrified. Without SSDI benefits I can’t afford to leave the US and get a visa abroad.
Because of course being "disabled" will be considered "fraud" by whatever AI they are using to assess these things.
I think it will be critical for you to make these decisions this year. And where you go may be determined by what access you will have to what you need.
This access is a HIPAA violation, but I expect our worthless government to do nothing about it. It is all bought-and-paid-for courtesy of Citizens United. There should already be a class action lawsuit, but the judicial branch isn't going to stop this. It is too slow and takes too long and is governed by Citizens United bought-and-paid-for Supremes.
I understand what you're going through. We've had multiple friends that depend on their medications for their actual lives and sanity, and this is an actual attack on the good people of this country! My father, who was the best, sweetest Christian man I've ever known, believed it was FINE to take medication for your mental well-being. He said God gave us science and medicine for good reasons, and "Better living through chemistry!" We need for the pharmaceutical companies to get good and ANGRY and fight back WITH us!
I'm not holding my breath for pharmaceutical companies to grow a conscience. They only care about profit. But that doesn't mean these medications don't help millions of people. Or that people shouldn't be able to use those tools if they work better than anything else.
All great suggestions! The problem with some prescription meds is they can be only filled every 30 days. This will cause a health crisis and harm many people.
I agree. Sometimes, you can get them filled for 90 days if you ask your doctor to write the prescription that way. And SOMETIMES, I've gotten an override for an additional 90 days by saying I was going to be out of the country for an extended period when the prescription needed a refill. (Which was true.) I know it depends on the type of medication, though.
What sucks is that people with ADHD cannot do that. We only get 30 days, our meds are all categorized as controlled substances and we must show our drivers license and it’s basically like it’s just assumed we’re all criminals. If they go after our meds we have nothing.
I bought a bunch of p-tests at Dollar Tree for $1.25 each in December. Read that they are just fine even at that cheap price. Will pay cash next time though, to be safe.
Also in December Costco had Plan B for $6 each. One store limited me to 1 and another to 2 per visit. Of course there will be a record of that now, since have to show member card.
For as long as pregnancy tests are available, buy them. Jessica Valenti shares resources for getting other supplies through the mail. It's a short-term solution, but people may be able to get more reproductive healthcare supplies that way in the near-term.
It’s my understanding you can get Plan B at Costco without a membership and for member price. You just tell them you’re getting something from the pharmacy instead of showing your member card so you’re unable to be tracked.
I am so grateful my primary is progressive. We had a talk about the cuts in research, but I totally forgot to ask him about things like the medications. The things we’ve taken for granted! I did stock up on N95s months ago.

This is worth trying. Costco is on our side. For now.
Scary.
It is. I cannot stand that we are being forced to consider these things, but I'd rather be proactive and not need it than not prepare.
Yes, thank you. Your post was timely, I just finished reading this post, so I am already on high alert.

Developing a strategy in uncharted territory is unsettling.
It is unsettling. But the vast majority of Americans have no idea things have changed.
I am so grateful my primary is progressive. We had a talk about the cuts in research, but I totally forgot to ask him about things like the medications. The things we’ve taken for granted! I did stock up on N95s months ago.
Glad this gave you a nudge to ask him about meds.
I wish I thought you were overreacting but unfortunately I think this is very realistic
I wish I thought I were overreacting, too.
